The Principals

Barbara Clarke is a Principal at The Impact Seat and an angel investor working nationally and internationally. Prior to these roles, she spent over a decade in management consulting (KPMG, PwC) leading teams to find value through intellectual property management and supply chains and in executive roles at social impact companies.

Teresa Nelson worked in government before completing her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) in business - strategic management. She has built a global reputation as a scholar in the areas of high growth firm dynamics, diversity and inclusion, research methods, and strategic thinking. In addition to being a Principal at The Impact Seat, she is the Senior Director of Policy and Research for Astia and a member of the Paris-based Scientific Committee for Women Equity Growth, a project of private equity firm, Bryan-Garnier. From 2014-2017 she served as an appointed member of the federal National Women’s Business Council advising the White House, and the Small Business Administration on issues of women and business.

Both Principals share a respect for data, cultural competence, and a belief in the value of diversity and inclusion for business and society.
